(Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that the MessageLabs Email Services have received the accolade of Security Product of the Year at the 2009 Australian Secure Computing Awards (SC Awards). The SC Awards are an important part of the IT security industry’s global awards program and were developed to recognise organisations, products and professionals that protect Australia from damaging IT threats.

Designed to protect businesses by blocking malware and spam and preventing misuse and inappropriate content and ensuring that end-users are guaranteed email privacy, the MessageLabs Email Services received the Security Product of the Year accolade ahead of a strong list of competitors. All entries were reviewed by a panel of industry experts and judged on strict criteria that focused on product purpose, competitiveness, benefits, technical advantages and profitability.

Held during a Gala Dinner at the AusCERT2009 Conference, this is the first year that the SC Awards have been held in Australia, expanding an established twelve-year tradition in Europe and the US.
