Hosted Web Security Update - 30 Day Communication Emailed to Partners Aug 31, 2010

Symantec Hosted Services is pleased to announce an upcoming release of a new component for our Hosted Web Security service which will help you provide your customers with greater security, increased functionality and flexibility when users connect to the Internet from locations outside their corporate network. This release (known as Smart Connect) will introduce a software agent that is installed locally on the user’s PC. The agent software in conjunction with the Hosted Web Service infrastructure will provide the following benefits for your customers:

• Interoperability with 'pay-for-use’ portals – protects users and maintains Web filtering policies when logging on to Wi-Fi hotspots and restricted access points • Location awareness - connects users to the optimal access point in our global infrastructure for optimal performance.
• End user transparency –User sign-on experience is the same whether connecting while roaming or within the corporate LAN.
• Added security - uses a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) channel, an agent certificate for workstation authentication and user authorization to apply individual Web usage policies.
• Connection Intelligence - automatically adjusts to differences in end user networking environments by distinguishing when a passive versus active agent state is required.

General Availability is scheduled to arrive at the end of September 2010.
